Alliance for the Study of Cognitive Disorders, Inc
The Alliance is organized for the charitable and educational purposes of increasing public awareness of the spectrum of cognitive disorders associated with mental illness, the deleterious effects of cognitive disorders on the individual and family, the impact of cognitive disorders on the ability to live independently, the impact of cognitive disorders on treatment compliance, and the range of available treatments for cognitive disorders; conducting educational seminars where lay persons and clinicians can learn about cognitive disorders and their treatments; conducting professional educational meetings at which leading researchers and clinicians can exchange ideas, develop new methods of treatment, and report on research; producing educational literature regarding cognitive disorders and mental health, and to make that literature available to the public; consulting to federal, state, and local agencies regarding the treatment of cognitive disorders; providing research grants in the area of cognition and mental illness to high school, college, graduate, and post-doctoral students; and providing funding for the preparation and submission of research, education, and service grant applications.
The Alliance was started in 2005 as a not-for-profit entity that could act independently to support education and advances in the area of cognitive dysfunction. Specific activities include the funding of research, including awarding small research grants to young researchers in the areas relating to cognitive dysfunction, supporting local and national conferences on cognition, and providing education materials for lay persons and professionals relating to cognitive dysfunction.
The Alliance is based in New York City. Board members are drawn from various scientific disciplines, including neuropsychology, psychiatry, and speech pathology, as well as professional disciplines including advertising and public relations.
Charitable Donations
The Alliance gratefully accepts donations. While many charities charge a large overhead for administrative costs to monies received, the Alliance designates 95% of funds received to the projects, grants, and awards which we support. All donations are 100% tax deductible and receipts are provided.
